Film Feature: The Birds

The Birds was one of my first Hitchcock films. I remember my 14 year old self thinking how awesome and positively gruesome these killer birds were (I think I was a little more morbid back then). From the start, I saw how Hitch used his humor in wit in slight ways. How could you not find this film amusing? This was also probably the first time I saw Rod Taylor as an actor, rather than just the voice of Pongo from 101 Dalmations. I’m pretty sure I fell in love with Taylor. He’s that sort of rugged dashing. Tippi Hedren was awfully amusing as Melanie Daniels, too.

On a side note, I had watched this film in one of my classes I took while studying in England. The professor had asked who had seen this film and out of about 30 kids, only 6 raised their hands, myself included. I felt positively astonished.

Gene Kelly & Rain

Yesterday was Gene Kelly‘s birthday (his 98th). It also rained here, which I thought to be quite coincidentally stellar.

Penny the Mascot!

My dear friend Steph ran the Bronx Half Marathon over the weekend (she’s a crazy race/running obsessive girl). Penny and myself trotted up to give her some cheer when she was finished, because she’s awesome and deserves LOTS of cheering. I decided to make Penny a little bandanna to show our love for Steph.

I stole all the photos from Steph… thanks! =)

Celebrity Feature: Sir Alfred J. Hitchcock

Master of suspense
Delighted in frightening
Scared us showerless
— Lairbo

As a follower, you’re probably astutely aware that Hitch is my absolute favorite director. This obsession started during the beginning of my high school days (9th grade, precisely) when I first watched The Birds. Then I watched Rebecca, followed by Psycho and I said to myself and everyone around me that this guy was pretty fricken (yes, I said fricken) awesome and I developed this crazy infatuation for his films. I mean crazy. I would proudly speak of his brilliant mind among friends and family. I decided at that point, if someone didn’t like him or appreciate his fine work, then I just couldn’t be friends with them (yes, I suppose I’m that sort of mean person), for I knew getting along would be next to impossible. When my boyfriend and I first started out, he hadn’t ever really watched Hitch films and I decreed that since I liked him so much (my boyfriend) I’d give him a chance to catch up on the times. Low and behold, he loves Hitch too (obviously, since I’m still with him *wink*).

Regardless, Hitchcock, with his mind full of wit and wisdom, his clean knack of suspense and comedy, and his womanizing ways, pretty much rules the world (even in death).
